Village
Accidental injury, cognitive impairment, disease or age are
factors that can contribute to a loss of mobility, independence
or even ones sense of security. Williamsport Retirement Village’s
objective is to help individuals return to their highest functioning
level. The comprehensive in-house rehabilitative staff works with
the resident, families and the WRV medical care team to identify
and deliver individualized treatment and attention the resident
needs most by involving physical, occupational and speech therapies.
Physical Therapy
The physical therapy program strengthens balance and general mobility.
After evaluation, the therapist along with the patient and their
family, develops a treatment plan for improvement of each of the
identified goals.
Services include:
-Balance training for unsteadiness with walking
-Strengthening exercises
-Range of motion exercises
-Pain reduction with heat (hot packs), cold packs, massage, ultrasound
electrical stimulation, iontophoresis
-Home evaluation and recommendations on necessary adaptation
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy uses a holistic approach to treating the
person in regard to his or her own environment. Therapy may include
adaptation of task or environment to achieve maximum independence
and to enhance quality of life. This is done by restoring skills
as well as adding new skills to someone so that they can adjust
to their disabilities.
Services include:
-Treatment programs aimed at improving abilities to carry out
activities of daily living (dressing, bathing)
-Recommendations and training in the use of adaptive equipment
to aid with lost function
-Specific exercise activities to increase endurance, strength,
movement and coordination
-Cognitive retraining for problem solving, safety, organizational
skills to regain independent function
Speech Therapy
Speech therapy helps individuals with communication and/or swallowing
disorders.
Services include:
-Evaluation of speech, language, voice, swallowing and cognitive
skills
-Treatment programs to improve current level of function
-Resident and family education
