After nearly 18 years of service to Brooke Grove Retirement Village (BGRV), Sue Goldstone, RN, director of health services at The Meadows and The Woods assisted living, has announced that she plans to retire in mid-January 2021. At that time, her successor, Kimberly ("Kim") Malin, RN, will transition to assisted living from Brooke Grove Rehabilitation and Nursing Center (BGRNC), where she currently serves as staff development/education coordinator.
Prior to her current position, Sue served in the roles of MDS coordinator, quality assurance coordinator and unit manager at BGRNC. She is truly passionate about nursing and throughout the years has been a strong advocate for her nursing team members, encouraging them to further their education and grow in their careers. She has been a key force in guiding assisted living staff through the challenges of the COVID pandemic, was integral to the success of Brooke Grove Retirement Village's transition to electronic records and has supported Brooke Grove Foundatin's three campuses through her involvement in the board's Quality of Care Committee. "We are so very grateful for the many ways she has 'touched people's lives' during her tenure," wrote Assisted Living Administrator Karyna Balbuena in a letter to residents and family members.
Sue leaves the residents and staff she loves in capable hands. With more than 40 years in long-term care, Kim's extensive experience includes serving as director of nursing in assisted living and skilled nursing settings, as a case manager and as a delegating nurse. She was recently appointed by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to serve as a member of the State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators, and she was intsrumental in establishing COVID testing and isolation protocols at BGRNC. She is also a first aid and COVID instructor, is wound care certified and is an approved infection preventionist.
