SILENT AUCTION RAISES $10,000 FOR GROWS

GROWS, the Grass Roots Organization for the Well-being of Seniors, raised $10,000 at a silent auction and networking breakfast hosted by Brooke Grove Retirement Village (BGRV) on June 2. The amount represents a 49% increase over last year’s auction total of $6,700.

GROWS is a nonprofit coalition of organizations and individuals dedicated to helping seniors, especially the frail elderly, maintain their independence and dignity. The funds raised at the silent auction will benefit GROWS’ all-volunteer programs: Action for Seniors, an advocacy campaign on behalf of Montgomery County’s frail seniors; Project Elderlink, an outreach drive to help seniors and caring families learn about community services; and the Caregiver Task Force, which evaluates the needs of professional and family caregiving.

The success of the silent auction was the result of the partnership of GROWS and BGRV, the generosity of more than 150 business and individual donors, and the hard work of the members of the Silent Auction and BGRV Hospitality committees, chaired by BGRV Community Relations Director Susan Frazier. BGRV also supports GROWS as a “gold benefactor.”

“The partnership between our two organizations has benefited us tremendously but, more importantly, is benefiting the entire Montgomery County senior community,” remarked Jim Coyle, executive director of GROWS. “This partnership has given GROWS the financial and member capability to carry out its mission. The recent success in getting the county executive and county council to agree to complete a long-term strategic plan for our seniors is a testament to our joint efforts.”

Silent auction donors included Cindy Libby-Green, Premier Homecare; BMI Karate Family Black Belt Leadership Academy; Walt Disney World Resorts; Rapp Funeral Home; Morgan-Keller; Georgetown Retirement Residence; Our House; Maid Brigade; Sunrise Senior Living; Coordinated Senior Care, LLC; Curtis Chevrolet; Festive Foods; Right at Home; and Senior Beacon.
